Avoiding the tough ends by treating them like asparagus and snap off the woody part, just eating the bud & the stem that stays behind.
2. Once the bud has opened, they still must be removed from the garlic if you want the bulb to get bigger, but they will be too tough to eat.
3. Scapes will stay fresh in the fridge for a long time, but they slowly get tough, so eat them sooner rather than later.
enjoy! thanks for reading my blog
nicoleNicole Narbonnehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10155435146644422584noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3946574607575519117.post-42968892892347988592011-08-17T11:37:44.647-07:002011-08-17T11:37:44.647-07:00Hi, just found your very interesting blog via Slow...Hi, just found your very interesting blog via Slow Coast...

I grew garlic for the first time and loved those scapes. They are somewhere between crusty and chewy... does that make sense? My opinion? Most of us on a celiac diet, are so overwhelmed to be able to eat a bread-like substance that doesn't taste like a cardboard box, that they will accept a small amount of imperfection of style, should the melted cheese escape through the folds in the bun.
